Preparing Links for off-campus use

Advice for Creating Off-Campus Links

To access library subscription content off-campus, the links must be “proxied” which means users must be routed through a login screen where they enter their Google Workspace username and password to show their Western Theological Seminary affiliation.

There are a couple of ways to do this. If you are direct linking to the article or ebook, make sure that the URL contains some version of the following: “westernsem.idm.oclc.org.” These links will ask students to log in when they are off-campus and most of our databases will offer you this link to copy. If you don’t see it you can manually add it to any link using our converter.

If you found the resource via Primo, you can also just provide the link to the record in Primo. The “View Online” green link

EZproxy Bookmarklet

The EZproxy browser bookmarklet adds the library's EZproxy prefix to a URL. When you are not on the campus network click on the bookmarklet to access licensed library resources that you've found via non-library sites such as Google, Google Scholar, email links, Twitter, etc.

To take advantage of EZproxy you will need to make sure your browser is configured to:

  • Allow pop-up windows.
  • Accept third-party cookies.
  • Enable JavaScript.

The browser bookmarklet can be added to iOS, Android and most browsers including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and IE.

  • Drag the Hope EZproxy bookmarklet link below to your browser's bookmarks toolbar.
  • Click on the bookmarklet after you land on a licensed resource that you've reached via a non-Western Theological Seminary site.

EZproxy Browser Extensions

Prefer a browser extension to a bookmarklet? EZproxy Redirect allows you to send any page to the Western Theological Seminary EZproxy, for more convenient access to Cook Library subscriptions.

After installing EZproxy Redirect, make sure to select Western Theological Seminary in the Extension Options (pending). Our EZProxy url is https://login.westernsem.idm.oclc.org/login?url=$@
